Combine Still and Motion

Summer is the time for county and state fairs, and they usually include a carnival with lots of colorful lights. I like to use long shutter speeds and record the designs the lights on the rides make. It's always an experiment, especially when I photograph a new ride.


If you want to try this technique at your local fair this year, be sure to take a tripod, plenty of memory cards and a spare battery. Try framing the ride to include both the stationary sections as well as the moving parts. The combination adds interest to your results!
