Nearly all images coming from digital cameras can benefit from adjusting the exposure, contrast and color with photo editing software. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic makes this easy to do in its Develop module. In the fall scene below, I was able to bring out more color and texture in the sky and water as well as enhance the late orange cottonwood leaves.
I adjusted the Whites, Blacks, Clarity, Vibrance and Saturation controls in the Basic panel, added more contrast in the Tone Curve panel and applied a profile in the Lens Correction panel. Then I darkened both the sky and water with the Graduated Filter and lightened the trees with the Adjustment Brush.
