The Twilight Sky

Full moon rise
Council Grove State Park, Montana

To photograph at night you need to understand the different phases of light as the sky moves from daylight through twilight to darkness and back again. Once you know these times and characteristics, you can make better photos of the full moon by shooting during civil twilight when the sky and land are close together in brightness. This allows you to record detail in both the surface of the moon and the landscape.
