Special Effects with Photoshop

High Key Self-Portrait
Frenchtown, Montana

One year I was asked to create a picture to send photography school graduates on their way. I wanted to wish them Good Luck, but the image I captured with the camera did not emphasize the good luck tokens I held in my hands. So I used Photoshop to convert the picture to black and white (removing the color distractions), brightened the whole image, added a strong white vignette (to disguise the busy background), and increased the contrast of the metal coins in my hands so they stood out from the rest of the photograph.

You can learn to apply these and other effects Using Layers and Masks in Adobe Photoshop, an online class in Missoula, Montana, beginning October 5, 2020. Click here to register.
