Manage the Light in Macro Photography

When you work with small subjects outside, you can often change how the light affects them. These pine cones were in direct sunlight. This hard light source caused bright highlights and dark shadows that obscured the details of the cones. So I used a small diffusion disk to soften the light while preserving the side lighting that reveals the texture of the cones.
