The Full Moon at Twilight

Full Moon over Council Grove State Park
Missoula, Montana

One of the most common requests my beginning students make is for advice on how to photograph the full moon. Making a successful image involves lens choice as well as exposure and selecting an appropriate time of day. Here the sun has just dipped below the horizon but still lights the sky surrounding the moon. This allowed for an exposure that kept detail in the moon's surface while the fading twilight sky revealed the foreground.
