Knot in Root

Knot in Exposed Tree Root
Frenchtown, Montana

While participating in a macro photography class this winter, I went looking for a subject that was mostly flat. I observed this interesting knot in a portion of an exposed tree root in my yard. I made sure the sensor in the back of the camera was parallel to the surface of the wood and stopped the lens down to f/22 to ensure corner to corner sharpness. Then I converted the image to black and white to emphasize the texture and flow of the wood grain. Such a detail becomes part of my tree portfolio, a group of images on a related theme.
