Birds of Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge #1

Trumpeter Swans
Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge
Montana

Last week I participated in a beginning bird watching class and we began our observations at the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge near Stevensville, Montana. This group of trumpeter swans flew directly overhead and landed in a nearby pond.

This and all the images I made that morning are heavily cropped from an equivalent focal length of about 450mm. I learned that it's hard to get sharp pictures of birds, either in flight or stationary, especially small ones. Given my equipment limitations, my best shots are of medium to large size birds that were fairly close. Still, it was fun to see so many different species and try photographing them.
