Food by Window Light

Christmas Cookies

Did you know that much professional studio lighting equipment is used to mimic the soft indirect light coming through a window? If you have a window --- the larger the better --- next to which you can set up a table and a simple background, you have the perfect lighting for making pictures of food. Here a large north-facing window to the left provides even lighting to show off the baked goods and dishes. You may need to use a tripod because exposure times can be long when working with this light source.
