Changing Seasons #3

Larch and Pines Dusted with Early Snow
Frenchtown, Montana

There were still a few western larch with golden needles sprinkled among the evergreens on the hillside across the river. I used a 200mm telephoto lens to isolate a portion of the forest with the most yellow and a gently curving line of open snow among the trunks.

Because the scene was all the same distance from the camera, I chose a middle aperture of f/16 on the lens and used the 2-second self-timer to prevent any camera shake from pressing the shutter button while the camera was locked on a tripod. Ensure you make sharp pictures by setting the camera controls yourself. Learn all the details in my 2022 photography classes now open for registration. Click here for a list of classes.
