Black & White #12

Ashland Estate of Henry Clay in Infrared
Lexington, Kentucky

Plants like grass and trees reflect the most infrared radiation, making them appear bright white, almost like snow. For the image to be effective, there must be something in the photo that does not reflect many infrared wavelengths. In this picture, the driveway and the building provide the contrast to the vegetation.

Learn how to make effective black and white photographs from color originals in Black and White Photography from Start to Finish, beginning February 10, 2022, at the Lifelong Learning Center in Missoula, Montana. Click here to register for the online session and here for the in-person session.
