Seattle - Japanese Garden #2

Iris and Pond in the Japanese Garden
Washington Park Arboretum, Seattle, Washington

I'm drawn to the simplicity and elegance found throughout the Japanese Garden. I've selected images such as this one that display that simple elegance. Leaving lots of room, or negative space, around the primary subject helps convey this feeling. Here the water with the soft reflection provides the negative space for the flower. The gentle light of shade also contributes to the quiet feeling.

Compare it with the following image of a different iris alone in the frame with lots more direct sunlight. It is a fine image, but presents a different feeling.
