Surprise Aurora

Northern lights color
Frenchtown, Montana

Having missed the spectacular display of aurora borealis on Friday night, I decided to try my luck on Saturday night. I spent about two hours waiting for the show to start and thought I might have seen a faint glow along the northern horizon. But I went home, convinced I'd been shut out of any display.

The next morning when I downloaded my photos, I realized there was a little color in the sky. After applying some fairly strong editing, I was able to bring out the green and red glow that the camera recorded and my night vision could not see.

Our digital cameras are amazing! And I'll probably try again Sunday night before the solar storm subsides.
