Bench & Winter Path

Bench & Winter Path
Maclay Flat, Missoula, Montana

Using a wide angle lens, I set the camera on a tripod and placed it very close to the end of the bench. This filled the foreground while allowing the path to create a line leading into the distance. I adjusted the aperture to f/22 for maximum front to back sharpness and increased the exposure by +1 stop to make sure the snow was bright white. I changed the white balance setting to Shade to compensate for the blue color of the overcast light. Then I pressed the shutter button with the two-second self-timer enabled. The result is a photograph that captures the quiet chill of a winter afternoon.
