It's All About Timing

Getting excellent sunrise and sunset shots is highly dependent on timing. You need to be at your desired location at least an hour before the sun reaches the horizon. Then you have time to pick the best location and compose your image before the sky lights up.

Pescadero, California

Sunrise and sunset pictures are also dependent on the timing of weather---clear, overcast, or broken clouds play an important part in the success of your photograph, too. By standing behind the Pigeon Point Lighthouse above, I was able to capture the setting sun streaming through the glass lantern at the top.
