Use Depth of Field to Direct Visual Attention

Everything in a photo from near to far does not have to be in sharp focus to convey a sense of place. You may still recognize the background building as a barn even though it is slightly soft due to shallow depth of field. This selective focus plus the red color keeps your eye coming back to the door in the foreground.
