You can often get more pleasing photos by using the Scene (sometimes abbreviated SCN) settings. These icons represent common photo subjects and adjust the camera automatically to help you get better photos of them.
For images of fall colors, try experimenting with the Foliage setting. (Not all cameras have this choice.) Take a picture on the regular Auto setting, then switch to Scene > Foliage and take a second photo. Compare the results to see which one you like better.
