Winter Is Coming

Frosty Trees near Greenough, Montana

No, not the winter in the Game of Thrones TV series. The real, cold, snowy, frosty winter those of us in northern climes experience beginning around the end of November. Once the snow covers the ground, you need to adjust your picture-taking methods to ensure you get images of bright, white snow, not the dull, gray variety.

This is simple to accomplish using the Exposure Compensation control available in any of the "letter" exposure modes on your camera. Using a "plus" amount of exposure compensation (between +1 and +2) tells the camera to add more light to the scene than it normally would, ensuring your snow looks pristine.
