Still Life - Tulip Petals |
Whether you are stuck indoors due to the pandemic or unhealthy air from wildfire smoke, you can still make photographs. One of my favorite subjects is photographing the petals after a cut flower has died. The image becomes a sort of elegy to the spent beauty of the blossom.
If you've never photographed dying or dead flowers or other plants before, consider giving it a try. I retrieved a piece of white poster board and laid it on a table next to a large window. Then I arranged the dropped petals around the stem as if they were still attached. I experimented with several arrangements of petals and stem as well as several camera angles and selected my favorite after reviewing them in Adobe Lightroom Classic.
