Years ago I met a professional photographer named Craig Tanner who gave a talk to a group of aspiring photographers. His speech was entitled "The Myth of Talent." I recently found the text of his speech reprinted with permission on another website. It was posted in 2007 and I can find no evidence that Tanner is still a working photographer. But his counsel remains wise and helpful. I hope you enjoy it.

Note: The photo above is from the first roll of film I shot using a manual focus, manual exposure 35mm film camera. My mentor Phil Rider coached me through the exposure settings and the photo lab made a decent print from the negative.
