Go with the Motion!

Bumper Cars
Western Montana Fair

Once the sun goes down at the carnival, making sharp pictures of moving subjects is a challenge! Instead of fighting the blur, embrace it with frames that purposely emphasize movement. Here I panned the camera to follow the bumper car as it zoomed past me. The camera movement causes streaks of color and light that make the ride look like it's moving faster than it was. There's a lot of chance involved in getting a good shot, so don't be afraid to shoot lots of frames.

I'm hoping the carnival returns to western Montana this summer so we can all enjoy Night and Low Light Photography at the Fair, a class which begins August 11, 2021, at the Lifelong Learning Center in Missoula, Montana. Click here to register.
