Montana Wildflowers #5

Streambank Wild Hollyhock
Seeley Lake, Montana

These wild hollyhocks are also known as Mountain Hollyhock and Streambank Globemallow. They grow in open areas with lots of sun, often along streams (hence the name). Their seeds can survive years before germinating, often prompted by wildfire. I photographed this specimen on a cloudy day along a trail through a recently burned conifer forest in the Swan Mountains.
