Glacier Lily with Log

Glacier lily with lupine leaves

The best portraits, whether of people or flowers, make use of a simple background. Such a backdrop is hard to find on the forest floor. But after some careful looking, I found a glacier lily growing next to a weathered log. Its neutral gray texture sets off this delicate flower perfectly.

The leaves on the left at the base of the stem actually belong to a lupine plant. In a few weeks, the purple blue of lupine will have succeeded the delicate yellow lilies.
