Try Something Different

Weeping Cherry Branch
University of Montana Arboretum, Missoula

After you've created your environmental shot, your portrait shot and your detail shot of your flowering subject, try something different. Because the background behind the weeping cherry trees tended to be filled with distractions, I decided to point my camera up and use the sky as the backdrop. I did have to work around the occasional white cloud, but the deep blue color effectively shows off a branch of the beautiful flowers.

Have fun making new pictures of flower when you join me for Photograph Flowers on the UM Campus. We meet May 9, 2024, at the Lifelong Learning Center in Missoula, Montana, for some camera and composition tips. Then we gather at the university on Saturday to enjoy the blooms. We return to the classroom the following week to share our favorite images. Bring your regular or phone camera. Click here for registration information.
