Winter Frost #1

Hoar frost coats the trees along the Bitterroot River
Missoula, Montana

In the mountain valleys of western Montana, winter high pressure often creates inversions where cold air is trapped under a thick layer of clouds. One of the positive side effects is the hoar frost that develops on everything outdoors. The longer the inversion stays in place, the thicker the frost grows.

The first week in December 2024 we experienced our first winter inversion and I took the opportunity to make some photos of Mother Nature's "flocking" on trees and bushes.
