Snow and Ice Design
Bitterroot River, Missoula, Montana

Earlier this February, overnight temperatures were as low as -14 degrees Fahrenheit. The cold made for interesting ice designs in the nearby river. While the Bitterroot River did not freeze over, the Clark Fork River running through Missoula did.

I cropped this smartphone camera image to a 16x9 format from the original since my phone does not have a long enough lens to isolate such a feature in the middle of the river. Learn more about in-camera cropping options in my Take Better Pictures with Your Smartphone class which meets March 8, 2025, at the Lifelong Learning Center in Missoula, Montana.
