Composition Fundamentals #5 -- Room to Move

Caribou
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
Girdwood, Alaska

Whenever you photograph a subject with a face or the potential to "move" from its current location to somewhere else in the frame, leave space in front of the subject to allow for that "look" or movement. Here I made sure there was more room in front of the caribou than behind it.

This technique applies to the direction people are looking, if not at the camera, or the direction a car, boat, or other vehicle might travel. There is more space in front of the plane, where it's going, than behind it.
