The Day After

Selected Fireworks
July 4, 2026
Missoula, Montana

I had planned to try photographing reflections of the fireworks in the river below the display, but my location did not allow for it. I still made some images of the pyrotechnics that I liked.

I put my camera on a tripod, used auto focus to focus at infinity and then turned off the auto focus as well as the image stabilizer. Then I set the ISO to 100, the aperture to f/11 and the shutter speed to Bulb. Using my wired remote shutter release (a shutter button on a string), I manually timed exposures for between 2 and 7 seconds. I did miss several explosions but finished with more than 80 usable frames. All of these have been severely cropped because I shot at 24mm to be sure I could include as many bursts as possible in different parts of the sky.
